Surely, you’ve heard a phrase like “you are an unlimited being” or words to that effect. It’s true-- you DO have unlimited choices facing you at any moment. From the moment you utter the phrase “I am going to…” to the moment you finish the sentence is a split second during which you have an unlimited number of choices. You may turn left or you may turn right. You may sit or you may stand. You may speak harshly or kindly to someone. Most of the time, the choice you make is governed by social convention or some rule you are deciding to follow. (Of course, it’s often useful to follow social conventions and rules of manners). However, realize that is a choice you are making.
On the other hand, saying you have unlimited choices does NOT mean you can do anything at all. While you have unlimited choices in front of you, you also face limits. There are times that you may only walk straight because you’re walking down a hallway. Or you may only stand because there are no seats left on the bus.
You are limitless to your core—though right at this moment you’re living in an environment that confines you. Being confined in this way allows you to experience things you couldn’t otherwise experience. Even so, within those confines there are limitless possibilities. Take a little time to ponder how these two situations can co-exist.
Another way to think of this idea is that right now, you are basically confined to a specific framework—living here on earth as a human being. But there are infinitely many choices within that framework. There’s no way out of the framework until you pass on.
Water always flows where it has to. No matter how long it may seem to stand, it always moves where it’s needed. So, even if you feel very confined right now, you’ll eventually get to where you need to be, given enough time—in the same way water does.
