It’s very hard to say what love is. Any description is going to be incomplete. You can only say certain things about love.
For example, love includes compassion. Love includes empathy and caring. Love includes wanting the best for others AND yourself.
Can it be any easier to say what love isn’t?
Love is not someone else’s approval. Love is not blindly approving of someone else’s behavior in all cases. Love is not giving someone everything they ever wanted. Love is not sex. Love is not rational. Love is not romance.
In our culture, we often mistake some of these things for love, thinking that getting any or all of them is equivalent to being loved. Feeling love is complete, whereas talking about love always leaves something out.
You are the reason people love you. People love you because you love you. Grasping for someone else's love and affection is like grasping at your own reflection in the mirror.
