Some people work hard to defend their unfavorable circumstances. You’ve probably seen it during a happy hour somewhere, or when a friend comes to you with an issue. Describing an issue to bring it into the light (making observations, for example) is useful. However, such talk can often degrade into defending an objectionable circumstance.
You may have found by now that what you focus on grows. Defending any unfavorable circumstances, you are facing is one of the most powerful and emotionally-charged ways you can focus on them.
If you stay busy defending your own misery, life is just as happy to keep dishing it out. Life is perfectly happy to let you keep what you ardently defend.
If something’s amiss in your life, re-frame the issue in terms of what you want, instead of defending how bad things seem to be.
