You can understand this easily if you know anyone who has passed on. The only thing that matters is what they left behind.
Whether you think of someone personally, or you think of someone removed from your life, consider what that person left behind. You may remember briefly the clothes they wore or the house they lived in. You may briefly remember what they acquired in life. But what really sticks is the non-material things they left behind. It’s their gifts to the world you remember!
In the end, you cannot GET anything at all. The phrase “You can’t take it with you” is so common that you probably don’t give it a second thought when you hear it. But it’s so true. Whatever you are collecting now will be passed on to your declared heirs or to the government if they get a chance. You can’t GET it.
If you can’t get anything, then your purpose must be to GIVE. That’s the only thing that will ever last.
